Welcome to Bahrain. The venue that...has most...sand...than any other
Practice highlight: Hamilton has a moment and hits the barriers. Something that was so common for the Honduhs, the Force India's or DC that was considered part of the programme by them. Of course, that was not the case with Hamilton. We had to endure countless minute by minute updates and endless replays of the accident. Panic at the stock markets started there!
Qualy: nothing out of the ordinary there. The Ferraris looked again stronger than the Maccas. Kubica got the pole with a blistering Q3 puzzling millions of journos wondering how would they put a title on their articles about a Pole getting on pole. That was a hard one. Massa was second, followed by LH, KR and HK.
Race: a brilliant start from Lewis and it was like Ayrton Senna all again...only backwards. A slow start saw him moving 8 places before turn one. 8 places down, of course. By turn 2 he has almost crashed against Alonso. He wouldn't make the same mistake again. Moments later he finally got it right...and crashed against Nando damaging his front wing in the proccess. A damaged front wing means you have to take thinks more calmly as the car's handling is basically screwed. That's for sissies, though, not for Lewis. He still had part of his wing left so he decided to remove it entirely with yet another crash against Nando by lap two, this time getting rid of that cumbersome wing and damaging Nando's car in the process and his own chances of scoring any points. Now he could pit with the feeling of a job throroughly done! Good work, Shaggy!
Meanwhile, an onboard camera from Nakajima's car shows just how hectic are starts from the back when you have to deal with so many chaos around you. It is nice to see him moving up the field elegantly through all the mayhem. Those pearls are sorely missed in the live broadcasting when they usually focus on the big names and/or big crashes. At the end of lap one Massa was ahead (overtook Kubica at the first corner) followed by Sideshow Bob Kubica, Kimi and Heikki. Later, Kimi overtook Kubica for second place and Nick passed Heikki. BOth were lovely manoeuvres (specially Nick's). Button and DC crash against each other, film at 11.
No more incidents for today. In the end it was the first Ferrari 1-2 of the season. Kubica against at the podium and Nick 4th. Heikki was 5th which seemed the place he felt more confortable at for the whole season.
Next stop: Espaņa!
