So, I recently wrote up a list of goals I want to achieve. I have one group that I want done by the end of 2008, and I have a secondary group of things I want done by various times that are before the end of 2008.
I know a lot of people say doing this works as good motivation, and I never believed a word of it. I've noticed though, that I've found myself more eager to get on with things on the list now though. When I wrote it up I decided to also add a percentage done next to each goal, as well as sub totals for each group and an overall total. When I first wrote it up (About two weeks ago) I had a total of 15.75% done already. I now have found myself with a overall total of 35.71%.
I don't think I'd have done almost 20% of the entire list in 2 weeks without the list. It does involve some personal stuff, but here's a couple of examples I don't mind sharing here...
These are both from the secondary group, which actually is 50% done overall.
The CS Site is quite a huge thing really, it involves a lot of input/output/database work, but having it 50% is a good start with over 2 months left.
RLSim is a program I've been writing for a forum (the one the CS Site is for) so they can run a Rugby League sim, with a decent sim (I hope
). It's a pretty big task to really, trying to get it realistic. It's only a few thousand lines of code long, but it's effective so far. I hope to have that done by Friday at the latest now. When I get it done I'll have my first goal 100% knocked out
Does anyone else do this sort of thing? Does it work for you? Will anyone read this?

Complete CS Site End 2/2008 50% Complete RLSim End 2007 90%

I find it better though if I put a good thing / reward at the end of bigger tasks which I'm putting off doing - anything as small as a chocolate bar to a CD / DVD / Game I wanted to have.
Good luck finishing your projects!
