I have a big question...

Is Mclaren using a 2009 back wing in testing?

look this picture taken in cars launch

Posted Image

and now in testing, the wing is completly different, it looks like last years wing...

Posted Image

I know they can test anything they want, but seems that their times are not so true...

well, lets see

I've read it is last year's wing which gives .5 s.

They need it to beat Alonso's .6 extra seconds.

The Mclaren  boys are not even trying to go fast.....Yet..... when they do try.... look out!!!
Same goes for Ferrari they are just tooling around learning about the new aero and slicks.
Trust it. they will be faster than they look right now

We on the other hand, don't know much till the first race!

That is defo a wing for last year in the pictures.

Sandbagging in testing is a good idea.  Your rivals think they have you and then you turn up at the first race and blow them away.

It was a bit of a joke but I heard they are using last year's wing because they have a new one (2009 spec) which provides similar performance in the wind tunnel.

None of them are trying just to be fast at the moment. They have a lot of work to do first but McLaren did everything they could to beat Alonso in the last couple of laps in Jerez.

I think we'll know a bit more about the truth soon. Maybe in Jerez again 2, 3, 4... of March with all the teams on track. Or maybe in Montmel Feb 25, 26, 27... Let's see.

Hi Alehop! :D
Truly missed your Alonso Posts!

Wow, Mclaren spending Millions of dollars like adding wings, removing them, tuning them just to beat Alonso in what I call as a cheap ego race! wow!

We all expect a tough battle with you and Maure this season. :P

When I saw this car in action, it looked seriously under-developed with Hamilton wringing it's neck off.  Looks like a 2008 spec ride with a paint job.

Actually, the car that was being tested by Macca was not a full 2009 spec car. And Lewis admiteddly ran his last laps with a very light fuel load. I don't think it was a cheap ego race. More of a mind game. Macca needed to top the sheets to send a message to Ferrari, stuck due to that stupid Baharin test. Renault F1 needs to give some results to their management before they guillotine Flavio. And both Lewis and Nando would be glad to race to the limit, of course. But my guess is that, among the drivers, it was a playful thing.

Isn't that what Formula One is all about? ;)

Probably Quiet One's is a better answer.

Common Andres, how can you blindly say such things? Mclaren would send a message to Ferrari when they both are on the same track, not in diffrent ones, Lewis might have been practicing qualifying runs, we know from the last couple of seaons that Mclaren usualy load their cars with fuel. Renault and Mclaren were just testing their cars and having fun, nothing to prove to each other, everyone knows Renault is strong this season. Yes you are right, amongst the drivers they were just playing, may be Lewis said, 'ho! Nado has gone quciker, bloody eye brows! guys drain the fuel'.

Oh, all of this is just something I pulled out of my behind as usual.

Ok, here we go:

1) The message they wanted to deliver to Ferrari is "beware, we are the fastest here...how are you doing there?".

2) I am sure it wasn't just a mind game, of course both Renault and Macca were trying qualy runs when they posted their best times. It IS useful to know how fast you can go every now and then during your programme. And I don't think there is anything that Macca has to prove to Renault, but I think that Renault has lots to prove to their own management in these days of cost cutting fests.

3) I like to think that the drivers were just taking their antagonism to a fun level. I hope they had fun!

I thought McLaren was sand-bagging all day until I found out about the '08 rear wing... something is up if all McLaren's got on Renault is 2 tenths, quali setup or no quali setup...

I don't need to provide support for such an obvious behaviour. It is not even a theorie, they were just having a good day in Jerez and both of them wanted to finish on top but Macca looked a bit over-concerned about that in the last two laps. Jeeeeez! :P

Thank you abbas!

PS.- I have a good link http://www.motor21.c...dt=315&nt=59948 It's is in Spanish but they are not biased about what they see during a testing. They tell you what they see.

Oh, I wouldn't be so sure. We usually see a more levelled field during tests than during the season. My guess is that it will still be a two horse race. It's the name of the animals that will race that are unknown yet... :whistling:

It could be true but you should know who is going to have that chance on a regular basis. There could be more than one team/driver in that situation but maybe one shines above all. Maybe the ugly one? :P

For a few drivers a World Championship can make the difference between a fantastic and a disappointing season. That's life. :)
