Looks like a 2009 spec rear wing to me.....and a 2009 spec front wing...and nose...and splitter...and airbox....and diffuser.....and......and....

Now...where did the Ferrari end up in 2009?

Thank you!

Oh wow! It looks so...red and so...white...it's obviously a revolutionary design! i mean, look at the...thingies. What do you mean "what thingies?" Those thingies over there!

Will Alonso's eye brows be so important for the car to be fast?

So Ferrari unveiled their car today, are there any surprises/innovations that our technically aware posters can comment on? I hear they keep a pushrod suspension, while it was expected that everyone would change to pullrod, following Red Bull. Is this true, and if so, what might be the reasoning in Ferrari concerning this?

(posted originally in "Today in F1" -thread, but this obviously is the correct thread)

Can´t help you there. Can't tell apart the new Ferrari from the first pic Craig posted, actually.

Sometimes I wonder what am I doing in an F1 forum...oh, yeah, now I remember, it was  because I was banned from that gynecologists' forum...don't ask.

(Regarding the push-rod suspension)

The team's chief designer Nikolas Tombazis reckons that Ferrari has been able to keep all the benefits of the push-rod layout without suffering any drawbacks in terms of the aerodynamic layout at the rear of the car."We evaluated different suspension configurations, and also pull-rod suspension like the one Red Bull introduced," he explained at the launch of the new Ferrari F150 on Friday.

"There are different possibilities - one is for aero volumes and we have found a way, which is not so visible on the car right now, to reduce the volume of the push rod suspension in an extreme way.

"That means we could reduce the rear volume, so our version is far more compact compared to the previous ones. We believe we have reached a similar level of packaging to the other ones.".

Ferrari speaking openly about their design? They never do that, even when all the innovation they got was a new sponsor's logo.

That Ferrari looks tame. Perhaps my predictions of Ferrari overtaking Red Bull (in my Red Bull will suffer most in 2011 thread) were dead wrong. The only thing interesting about this Ferrari is the rumour that it's using an interconnected suspension. If they've managed to make that work, it may see them pull ahead of the rest. Interesting to note that the effect of the interconnected suspension is exactly like the effect achieved with mass dampers.....one wonders if this will be allowed where the mass damper was banned.

On the pull vs. push rod suspension issue: It's a non-issue. The biggest benefit of running a pull over a push is one of center of gravity. A pull-rod will let you run a lower CoG in the rear. This is only helpful if the rest of your car's arse is designed around it. Last year's Red Bull had an extremely sophisticated rear-end that lent itself to the lower CoG from the pull-rods.
Don't rest in peace, Bruce. Raise Hell.

You know, a lot of people are making a big drama about the "real Lotus" and who should yield to whom nonsense, so I'm going to make a big drama out of Ferrari stealing the name from America's best selling motor vehicle all season long. ;)

It's amazing how much cleaner the rear of the car looks without the double diffuser and EBD. A kind of uninspiring looking car from Ferrari, but I would imagine they have a few aces up their sleeve. McLaren are pretty similar when it comes to launching a car bare (so to speak) and not showing their hand till late. As with the 2009 and 2010 cars, a very nice looking mount, but it will be interesting to see if they have the speed.

Interconnected suspension you say?????

So they have whipped up a modern di Dion suspension assembly? Possibly last seen on the dog of a race car, the Ferrari 312T, as tried to race by Gilles Villeneuve.

For those of you going WTF is a di Dion suspension then click here: http://en.wikipedia....ki/De_Dion_tube

For those of you wanting to see a dog then click here: http://en.wikipedia....ki/Ferrari_312T (in di Dion guise, of course)

Things bode oh so well for Ferrari... :P

It should give them great rear end stability, but I can't see it being the golden nugget. And I can also imagine other teams thinking of developing it for themselves if they believe it infers a performance advantage. One way or another, by the time the season starts I don't feel the advantage it infers will be overly big.

Nope. They found an old Innocenti in the yard and copied it's Hydrolastic system.

How?Sorry Mike, not trying to rile you but how can you assess that it looks tame when we have'nt seen the other cars and know what we in for. Is it from years of observing F1 cars and detail? Personally, I don't usually know what to make of F1 cars on first impressions....

We keep on working, we do our thing, Vettel shouts over the team radio,We are who we are!

"Vettel is a champion. That’s not referring to his achievements, but rather to his approach to everything he does. He wins. All the time. His preparation is meticulous, his attention to detail reminiscent of Michael Schumacher at his peak, and his performance on the track is almost always flawless. Vettel is capable only of domination. He knows no other way... Vettel is not in Formula One to be liked. He is there to win. And in the words of Ayrton Senna, perhaps the greatest of all Formula One drivers, “Nice men don’t win.”"

I hope the F150 is an interim car or else... :thbdn:

If I were a team manager I would design two different cars for 2011. One with KERS and the other without KERS at all.:victory:

Then I would design a fake and I'd call it F150. :1st:

What they have presented is essentially just the basic shell of the car. The aero package that they turn up to the first race with will be quite a lot more evolved than that.
