So is our like or dislike or indifference of cars based on subtle marketing ploys, to which we have all succumbed? Or is it we expect Force India to have yet another middle of the pack, not really count for too much season, so we just look at the car indifferently, and frankly can not be bothered to talk about it, instead talking about the weather?

On the flipside, do we discuss other cars with affection, misguided and ignorant technical claptrap, because we have an investment in wanting "our" team to be fighting for the championship, or another type of investment wanting to see the backmarker cars improve?

On the face of it, we care about Team Poochie, Team Lotus, Virgin, McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull, but Force India, Williams, Sauber, and STR we don't.  And the rest have been forgotten about already.....

Er...everybody does it. The problem is not whether people care more about some teams7drivers or not, the problem is when they refuse to acknowledge the impact it has on  their own opinion.

That's what bothers me so much when I have to face some "objective" poster. I strive to be as objective as possible (Muzza can attest to this), yet I keep rubbing my preference for Nando and Team Poochie at every post I make. Why? Because I am aware of my bias and I want other people to take that into account. But then someone says "I have no preferences at all. Based on the high moral ground that confers to me, I think that Kazuki Nakajima is better than Ayrton Senna. Your accusations of bias just because I wear a samurai sword and consider myself a proud member of the Tokugawa clan descendants of the great Shoguns is frankly, ridiculous as I just stated that I am objective. You on the other hand, already told us you are a Poochie fan, which invalidates whatever you have to say"

I hear ya, but  think you are a little biased against this samurai dude by being the Team Poochie official mascot.  Hence, your uncalled for ad hominem attack on him...

For shame Poochie mascot...for shame.

I'm finding the Force India car a little same same.

But the Ferrari is always red, and that's cool!

Does anyone else have this internal battle with double standards??

I posted on this yesterday however my internet connection failed at the exact moment I pressed the button.  My comments were along the lines of:-

  • Mercedes engine and KERS system should be good for them in the season
  • They encountered disruption last season with two experienced members of the technical team leaving for Sauber (James Key and Mark Smith)  To lose one Technical Director in a year is unfortunate, to lose two is down right careless.  Interesting to discover whether they have steadied the ship over the new season (although this is difficult to quantify and woudl be very subjective).
  • The match up between di Resta and Sutil.  I don't care much for Sutil.  There's been lots of talk around him for a few seasons now saying how quick he can be and that he's best mates with Hamiliton.  Well so what.  I've never seen him yet drive a race where I thought he did exceptionally well.  Monza 2009 where he had a car that could challenge for the win he managed to miss out on pole position because of a mistake in quali, then finished the race in 4th place when he qualified 2nd.  Last year he did nothing of any note apart from make more mistakes in the races.  For a driver of his experience he has to do more and perform a hell of a lot better.  If I was di Resta I'd be going into the season thinking I could have you.
  • Car design looks ok.  Nothing to take you breath away.  Functional.  It should maintain Force India's position in the field, providing the drivers can bring the car home in one piece.

I love how people say things like "x car doesn't look very different from last year" or "hmm doesn't look very revolutionary". As if the technical directors will read the comments and think "Oh, bollocks! What are we thinking?! Of course, our car needs to look like it's fast. That will make it fast".

We know jack sh!t.

Unless we all become human wind tunnels or are masters of CFD we will remain p!ssing in the wind (or in our nappies).

The McLaren looks different. I'm sure it will perform different from the other different cars, and different from last year's car.

Waah! (plop).
Be gentle or i'll cry and poo.

Good post; particularly your comments on their drivers. I hope di Resta ends the Sutil myth this year.
