Lucky Strike B·A·R Honda unveiled its 2005 season challenger today - the B·A·R Honda 007 car - at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona. The car marks the start of a new era for the team and is yet another major performance step, one which Nick Fry, Chief Executive Officer of B·A·R Honda predicts will launch B·A·R Honda into a new era and its three year challenge to win the World Championship by 2007.

The success of last year's car was the result of a dramatic improvement in engineering standards, teamwork and cooperation between B·A·R and Honda, which enabled the team to move up from fifth to second place in the Championship, marking them out as the season's most improved team.

A significant evolution of the 006, the B·A·R Honda 007 demonstrates a further improvement in design and build-quality.  The new car is visibly smaller and its more unified development and integration with the engine has resulted in a tighter, more refined packaging and considerable weight saving despite the more onerous 2005 structural and crash test requirements.

The most visible differences to the external appearance of the car have been driven by the changes to the 2005 aerodynamic regulations, while under the skin the second-generation carbon-composite gearbox is a further development from the team's innovative concept for 2004 and is lighter with improved internals designed and developed under the joint chassis programme.

Honda has produced a new engine to meet the challenge of the two-race rule introduced for the first time this season. Although similar in concept to the 2004 unit, it too is a completely revised design but is smaller, lighter and affords a lower centre of gravity.

For 2005, B·A·R Honda has also developed its partnership with tyre supplier Michelin. In addition to the team conducting an extensive programme of tyre development during winter testing, they have been working closely together on the design of the 2005 car.

yikes!  look at the shovel on the front wing!   not exactly pretty.

the black colour of the lower sidepods combined with the black background makes it hard to tell the true shape of the sidepod area, but it looks very similar from last eyar's shape, especially the sideview.  in fact the whole stage and back curtain is black which makes it hard to identify the true lines.  a bit of stealth camouflage imo.

still looks fast tho.  it doesn't have the gorgeous sidepods of the sauber (more similar to the toyota's large air intakes) but a good-looking car nevertheless.  i especially like the extra black and it will look a lot better under bright light on the track..

sad to say the sauber looks faster, but teh bar has the advantage of the honda engine.

ps. well done on the fast photo upload!

that front wing certainly dips alot! It doesn't look the best, i dislike the balck on the c##Kpit area and the servre dip the front wing has, otherwise it doesn't look that much different from 04 to me.

There’s more green and red as well as black.  It also seems a bit `blotchy` to me the colour scheme doesn’t seem to flow very well…

**** off!!! I actually think it looks faster than the sauber, and faster than the toyota. I love the front wing, it looks great, i love the colour scheme. What more do u all want anyway, the new aero regs only stated the back and front wings needed to be altered!!!

But most top contenders would improve the rest of it to keep up with the others.

Livery wise, BAR have always screwed it up, bar '2000. This year is no exception. The front wing looks very bulky and does indeed look like a shovel, it reminds me of Jordan's 2001 front wing. The side pods look pretty much like last year.

jenson rules, you get out of the wrong side of the bed mate. We won't know how good BAR, or anyone is until Melbourne, simple as that.

"When Jacques was with us, he was a very aggressive driver, fiercely competitive, mentally hard as nails. Very quick with it, very gifted. A bright fellow, undoubtedly, very intelligent. He was an absolutely born racing driver - look at the way he'd bang wheels with Michael, pass people on the outside, that kind of thing" -Sir Frank Williams on Jacques Villeneuve
"This year, with BMW, JV's going very well, and I'm pleased for him. Whether or not he'll get a drive next year I don't know, but I hope he does, he's an unusual, and very strong addition to the F1 community. A character." - Sir Frank Williams again on Jacques Villeneuve

the 1999 livery was one of the best i've ever seen, even though 90% of people hated it.

as for jenson rules, your the one who implied it didn't matter if they changed the rest of the car or not, i was just saying why they should of, if they indeed haven't don't take everything so serious, or you'll end up with an ego like jenson buttons.

yeah mate, no one dissed your loyalties.  that shovel is an acquired taste tho.  it will take me some getting used-to.  i do think it gives it an agressive edge, which i like, and it won't be hiding any intentions when taku slices the field up next year!  it will look very imposing in the rear mirrors and on the back-facing tv cameras

i can't wait til it hits the track so we can see more of it in better light.

There is not a livery wich can match the lotus JPS livery from the 70s and 80s...it is the best livery ever alongside the lancia-martini livery in rally racing....

I also want to see mclaren back where they belong, andf if BAR and Mclaren thrash ferrari, or JB, Kimi  and Montoya thrash Schumi id be very happy. Lets just hope it happens. i agtee wiv every1 that BAR will fall a few places but only cos they r a 1 man team pretty much!

Jenson is an excellent racing driver, Sato is not.  Jenson deserves to be in F1, Sato does not.  Anyway, why aren’t you a Webber fan?  After all, it’s not every day you get an Australian driver in F1 and certainly not in a Williams.

QUESTION: if the new regs state that the wing has to be 50mm higher than 2004, how is the "shovel" in the front plane of the BAR wing allowed to be so much lower to the ground than the rest of the front wing assembly??
How do we judge driver's abilities equally when not all cars are the same?

good question. one for the fia regs.  i imagine there's a minimum space on teh front wing that has to have x mm of ground clearance, or a minimu space that constitutes a front wing.  would have to check the regs on that one.
