Seeing as there's no forum yet for 2012 car releases, thought this would be the next best place.

Caterham are releasing their car officially tomorrow in F1 Racing magazine, but they've already released an early picture.

We keep on working, we do our thing, Vettel shouts over the team radio,We are who we are!

"Vettel is a champion. That’s not referring to his achievements, but rather to his approach to everything he does. He wins. All the time. His preparation is meticulous, his attention to detail reminiscent of Michael Schumacher at his peak, and his performance on the track is almost always flawless. Vettel is capable only of domination. He knows no other way... Vettel is not in Formula One to be liked. He is there to win. And in the words of Ayrton Senna, perhaps the greatest of all Formula One drivers, “Nice men don’t win.”"

Apparently the Ferrari isn't much of a looker either, but hopefully some of the grid will look better than that.

According to Scarbs F1, all the teams will adopt this look. Big pic.

These will take some getting used to...

Yeah, I guess they've been forced by the regs to adopt that design. Nobody would do it by choice..

Nice sig there btw.

If there's one merit to all that mind-numbing oval racing I watch, it's that, having seen so many stock cars and recent IndyCars, you learn not to be so critical of how these F1 cars look. :P

Besides, any old heap of **** looks pretty to me coming down the straight at Montréal...would love to be in turn 1/turn 2 this year.  If not, New Jersey 2013 on the back stretch...

Absolutely. I think it's pretty ominous sign when ever people involved within the teams are saying they're ugly. Normally it's "OMG our car is so beautiful and brilliantly designed it's going to be the best ever!!!!"

But I think most people bestowed with the gift of sight would find it hard to argue it's a pretty thing.

(On the sig thing - thanks, always liked Alonso's playing card motif)

What is this? Eric actually being slightly positive towards something F1 related? I don't believe it.... :P j/k

Suddenly missing half the races live due to Sky doesn't look like such a bad deal after all!

Surely they could package the keel better to lower the upper suspension mounts...but the rule requiring the nose to be a new, lower, maximum height is the reason behind this...but to just chop the nose on the vertical plane of the front axle and then lower everything forward of that is just awful.

Here's what I don't get...the cars in the 90's had low noses...McLaren had one not so long ago....and none needed to to this to make it all work.  I smell a ruse here....because you can package the nose better than that...unless they were wanting fans to not feel so sad Kubica was never coming back and this was in honour of him....

I wouldn't scoff, Sean.  IF this is what we are going to get in terms of design this year, then it represents a stepchange in the usual evolutionary development of the cars from year to year.  McLaren has lost a lot of their back room boffins this past year, some to the road division, others to Ferrari and other teams.  I would not be at all surprised that the McLaren is struggling to hang on to third place in the WCC this year.

Nose has to be lower this year but the measurement taken from the  front bulkhead remains the same as last year therefore all the teams will bet adopting the same or similar approach to the design of the front end of the car as Caterham.  Bloody ugly looking cars, looks like the front end is a bit of an after thought.  At least in the future when we look back at pictures taken at a race this year there will be no doubt in our minds when the photos were taken.  We will all be able to say, with some authority, that's a 2012 car..

McLaren always seems to struggle to start with. The '09 car was garbage, the '10 car struggled to start with, and the '11 car was hopeless all through testing before they made some serious modifications before the first race. Seeing as it was really only Red Bull and Red Bull in the championship last year, I'd be surprised if any of the big name teams did struggle. Afterall, surely they'd have all turned their development towards this year anyway after realising there was no chance of catching Vettel in '11.

I say bring back the Walrus nose.

Caterham has made huge mistake when they decided to launch their car first. All the shock reaction on ugliness of 2012 cars hit them in full amount. Other cars aren't going to be much prettier.

There are many advisory bodies associated with F1 for example the Technical Working Group and the Overtaking Working Group.  I say there should be an Aesthetics Working Group.  Their brief is to ensure that any future rules brought into the sport do not impact on beauty of a F1 car.  Casual observers of the sport will laugh at this years crop of cars.

In all honesty, every year we claim that we have never seen cars as ugly as this year, only to become more enraged the next year saying that they were nowhere as neautiful as last years'.

Having said that...by George, that is actually hideous!

To be honest, I don't really care what the cars look like as long as they're fast and produce good racing.
