Music connects people through the unspoken appreciation of something that sounds right. Something that taps into the deepest corners of your soul, making you feel alive. When someone else gets it too and you know they do, it feels beautiful.

For a start, Kobayashi was British (which I'm sure this Government would have something to say about...), Ricciardo was German, Vergne was American (someone for Eric to support
Who knew? I didn't.

I never really understood why they include national flags in the results and why they play anthems on the podium. I can't really make the connection between nationality and Formula One. Despite all the non-serious stuff I post about U.S. Americans in racing, I truly think it's stupid to try to celebrate a country for one individual entity's accomplishments, whether they belong to a driver or team. Britain didn't win the last race. Hamilton and McLaren did. I just don't understand trying to involve nationality in F1 at all.
Now you'll probably turn around and say "but Eric, some of the guys in the ladder you support/follow are North Americans, you hypocrite" and that's true, one's from California, the other's from Ontario, and the third's from both Rome and Arizona. So why does that happen? Because I follow the feeder series in North America, so I'm familiar with the drivers who raced in North America before they raced in Europe. I'm sure if I knew any others, I'd be interested in their careers, but because I am dumb and stupid and can only keep track of so many series, I only know the drivers I've gotten to see race. Couldn't care less where they're from, and the proof is in that phrase, because if I were a true xenophobic jingoist I'd have used the Americanism of "could care less"
SparkNotes: I think we just witnessed the Pic of Charles' career.

I think that there is a place for National anthems and patriotism in general in F1.
True fans normally follow the driver they love for a whole host of other reasons; rarely to do with Nationality. But less hardcore fans want to see their country ment do well. Hell, even as a true fan, I still fill a sense of National pride when Lewis or Jenson grace the top step.
I can understand how you feel; you won't be celebrating an American win until Obama becomes Queen.

Not that it is of much comfort when it was basically to say "I suck", but still...

You're right Andrés, qualifying makes no sense but great job Maldonado, Pérez and Kobayashi.

Weird qualy. It was like being transported into some parallell universe where everything is possible and your weirdest fantasies will come true.
And even there Massa sucks.

No penalty for Kimi; while he was deemed to have been outside the track, it was seen that he was slower during those laps when that happened than on the laps it didn't, so no penalty was awarded.
