Seb vs Nando will continue to be close.

Hammy will be stymied one way or other.

Merc will continue to shine as the fastest backmarkers.

Kimi will continue to be winless & consistent.

Just another race day, folks.

The fact Vettel and Alonso are that close despite the latter having an IndyCar's suspension is pretty spectacular, but I think the gap only broadens from here.  I'd love to know what Red Bull figured out before Singapore to unseat McLaren.  It's kind of sad when you can't innovate in public for fear of penalty.  They had to find something to see that jump.

Another new track for me.  This is the first full season I've stuck with since 2008, so I get that joy from time to time.  I really liked Korea as a track, actually.

Both RBRs faster by a mile than anybody else in qualy pace. Closer in race pace but nobody seems fast enough to compensate.

So a fight between Mark and Seb for wins in the last races? How thrilling.

It was a wonderful championship until RBR ruined it all :P

They will end up alone patying with their few fans. Hope next year isn't like these last races or it will be 2004 all over again.

And nno, I am only half bitter because this means Alonso not winning the WDC. You still will have to consider the other half of my bitterness :P

But when asked about the new parts after Friday’s track action, Hamilton furrowed his brow and answered: “No, we don’t have anything new.”

If McLaren intend to hide things from his driver at least they should try not to  tell the rest of the world about it.
I hope Lewis punches Sam Michael in the face for that.

Apparently Alonso's a bit miffed that Ferrari's "all talk, no upgrades". Wonder how long will the non-WDC streak will have to continue for one of them to walk out on the other. Bah, I'm just trolling unsuccessfully.

Whatever that dumb idiom is about whatever always rising to the top of whatever it's in, that's this.  Red Bull and Vettel are the best in Formula One.  Rather than complain it's starting to look over with four races left, we should be glad it wasn't over with twenty races left, because pre-season, that's what a lot of us expected.  Ferrari and Alonso put up an improbably wonderful fight this year while McLaren blew things early and never really got back to being McLaren after that.  Let us not get spoiled into thinking Pastor Maldonado steering a Williams to victory is something that's supposed to happen in F1.  The best car, team, and driver win.  I see nothing wrong with the projected outcome of Red Bull/Vettel cleaning up the rest of the season...

...and nothing conclusive to say we should award anyone the title until it's clinched and the stewards have had a month or two to think about which borderline-legal part they want to make black-and-white illegal (a big reason, I think, it stayed so close for so long).

Nobody is questioning the 'worthiness' of RBR title shall they win it. They are the best package by a country mile and showed it many times. But worthy is not the same as entertaining, or thrilling. Like you said, it was an exceptional championship so far, and it wasn't just because Alonso was winning and us blind ALonsomaniacs went crazy about it. Maccas fans, Vettel fans, RBR fans, fans of the finger and Lewisterics, Buttonites and Webberites, Massochists and Maldonadon'ts, Britney Spears wannabees, Sergio Perishable fans as well...everybody was thrilled because there was a sense of a competition going on.

If our pessimistic pronostics come true then we will see Vettel racing himself for the remaining races. Will he be worthy of that championship? "The winner is always worthy, because he won" is the tauthological (sp?) phrase usually uttered in these cases, which albeit patently a logical fallacy will be true in this case. Will we be more ntertained because of that? I doubt so.

(I had a bad day, in case you couldn't tell, I am sorry if I sound grumpier than usual!)

Alonso's best lap - 1m26.521s - is 0.679s down on Vettel's morning benchmark.

Are they in for struggle in qualifying???

Vettel ran 8 laps to finish 2nd in Q1 and first in Q2. Lewis needed 16 laps, Alonso 13...and those guys finished more than 05.s behind Vettel.

Alonso: This isn't fighting Vettel. When we all had a similar car I was leading the championship. Now we're fighting Newey.

Wise words.

Fray Luis de León said:

As we were saying yesterday...
Fray Luis de León wrote mystical poems which prompted Cervantes to proclaim León "a genius who astounds the world and who, in ecstasy, might rob us of our senses." León was also an active man who taught at the University of Salamanca, translated classical and biblical literature, and wrote on religious themes. Twice denounced before the Inquisition, he was imprisoned for "heresy," though he returned to the University to later hold the chairs of Moral Philosophy and Biblical Studies.

Tradition has it that he began his lecture the first day after returning from four years' imprisonment with the words "as we were saying yesterday..."

Let's not miscontrue the truth...

"At the moment we are not fighting against Sebastian only," Alonso said following qualifying. "We are also fighting against Newey let's say - [the team] has finished first or second in the last four races.
"It is not so easy to fight, especially on Saturday, but on Sunday we are normally more competitive."

If Seb gets a clean start and his car holds up, he should win handily. Hamilton will finish 2nd, at best. Alonso has slotted himself at the highest place possible, and waiting to maximise his chances. A podium will be a bit difficult for him, though.

Schumi...sigh.

If Hamilton had left the track twice in a Q3 run to achieve pole he would have been punished - Schumi too. Obergruppenführer Markus would have ran sniffling to Charlie in the blink of an eye. It doesn't help that these Tilke tracks are like a kid's playground and don't demand the levels of driving skill that was demonstrated by the stars of yesteryear.

It was quite minimal, especially when a driver is pushing himself hard to be at one with his machine. You can barely see him go off the track..... don't know what the big fuss is all about....

We keep on working, we do our thing, Vettel shouts over the team radio,We are who we are!

"Vettel is a champion. That’s not referring to his achievements, but rather to his approach to everything he does. He wins. All the time. His preparation is meticulous, his attention to detail reminiscent of Michael Schumacher at his peak, and his performance on the track is almost always flawless. Vettel is capable only of domination. He knows no other way... Vettel is not in Formula One to be liked. He is there to win. And in the words of Ayrton Senna, perhaps the greatest of all Formula One drivers, “Nice men don’t win.”"
Chris Cameron-Dow

"One might be tempted to say Ferrari are inconsistent this year. I think the opposite.
They are having one very good race followed by one very poor race. Consistently.
