Not that much different from last year's car, but kind of expected that anyway given no major regulations change for this year. And teams do their best to disguise the new bits till the first race anyway...

Pains me to have to say this but...that's one fugly car! Why, oh why did they do that? Too many logos, too much red...
I want my beautiful Lotus in black and gold back!

This is all Kimi's fault.

And Brad's. :meh:

Was an online launch and the video is on their YouTube channel (there is also a longer video around two hours, but that's just the same video as below but on a loop, strangely).

No, seriously, back on topic, that is definitely a new Lotus car. Well done to them.

Well, well...last time I saw such a lively crowd was at the Soviet Premier Leonid Brezhnev's funeral.

Himi (?) Raikkonen was definitely the merriest person there.

Just because: Romain's significant other. Why do we call him a loser, again?

Romain for world champ this year...no doubt in my mind!  He will not lose anything all year!

Although he might keep dropping his pencil....

She looks like she's old enough to be his mother.

The Lotus E21 looks like it's old enough to be its mother, the E20.  That's not unexpected, though.

I don't like the livery (I want the Camel colors if we have to do Lotus knock-offs, personally), but we're one step closer to F1 now, right?  That's a good thing.

The line of thinking that 2013 will be a continuation of 2012 seems to be about right, and that, too, is a good thing.  It was still very, very competitive as the season closed.

I kinda like the red in the car... I think the red color will grow on us later in the season. I wonder why they are not using "gold" instead of that "cream" color... well...

Here we go again!

Go Lotus f1!

We keep on working, we do our thing, Vettel shouts over the team radio,We are who we are!

"Vettel is a champion. That’s not referring to his achievements, but rather to his approach to everything he does. He wins. All the time. His preparation is meticulous, his attention to detail reminiscent of Michael Schumacher at his peak, and his performance on the track is almost always flawless. Vettel is capable only of domination. They allowed for a piece to be fitted over the step, but to be made from a prescribed type of material...Lotus has said it's too heavy....so it's out the window...

They have alternated between the two a few times.  The original JPS Lotuses used both the cream and the gold, so either one is historically accurate.  I think the gold looks better...

...but what matters is if it's a contender or not.  I just want the same excitement we've been spoiled with, and Lotus having a good car will be part of keeping that going.

It will appear "gold" on TV, which is what they do the livery for...for example, the Marlboro McLarens were not red and white, but an orange and white, and the Jaguar was trying to get BRG to come across, but failed at it (using BRG would have been near black on TV); they got a sparkly green instead...

Sidepods are slightly changed...McLarenesque wing over sidepod entry...exhaust repositioned...more red paint....

I was at least expecting not to see the stepped nose on this car, to me it feels like the old car with a new painting job.

Kimi Raikkonen: It is the same thing that I said before. I have no interest in driving for a bad team next year. If I race here, I always try to finish as high as I can. I don't need anything to motivate me. If I drive, I drive to do my best and that is it.
jemstride:
"I get the feeling that Alonso fans tend to heap over-praise on Alonso and bring down Kimi whenever they can, with mere theories and unjustified statements."
I just always end up disagreeing with you guys because of all the huge exaggerations, myths, theories & unjustified statements

Lewis Hamilton:
I never go with expectations, I go with a target. That is to be at the front, and the ultimate aim to win, which is the mentality I have always gone racing with.
You've got to be on the limit all the time - and I love that, because that's how I love to race.

I don't dislike the red, but I agree that gold would be nicer for the sponsors.

Otherwise... gotta wait and see if it's any good compared to the other cars.

I too expected the duck noses to be gone this year.  We'll see what the other teams come up with.  Fingers crossed!

Despite the FIA's best efforts with vanity panels, you're not going to get a racing team to put anything on their car that isn't giving them a performance advantage.

As for cream vs. gold, there is no one JPS Lotus color:

I saw Mario Andretti's Lotus restored and in-person.  Was somewhere between cream and gold, but certainly not metallic/shiny.

And as for the red, well, it's best not to forget the liveries this team used in the ING days, and be thankful now we only have a little bit of red to be sad about.

I'm not too bothered by the nose, as last year it was far from the worst. They probably have the nicest stepped nose, if there is such a thing...

Not bothered about black and gold either. On the basis they haven't got anything to do with Lotus in the slightest, I'd really rather they didn't. Still find it quite amusing they are even still called Lotus to be honest.

Oh, and because drivers change their crash helmet designs constantly these days, here are Kimi's and Romain's design for this season.

I really liked the 2011 Black and Gold... It was a proper gold, and became too creamy 2012 and now 2013
