Taking Tiger Mountain?

Recommended Posts

Lately, I see some dismal story about F1's demise almost daily. The main problem is the age-old concept that F1 is the cutting edge of technology in automotive development. The sport has taken that notion to a quite ridiculous degree of application, almost to the point where we aren't racing anymore, privateers drop like flies and F1 legends like Honda and Renault have mucho egg on their faces. Renault are buying their way out of trouble [and putting the boot in at RBR for good measure by the look of it] and Honda are still struggling to understand what Ron-san is babbling on about. Here are the facts: we are trying to marry two engineering concepts that are completely foreign to each other - powerful, smelly and thirsty engines and a super-green planet. Forty years ago, F1 was certainly leading the way for the industry in terms of better aero, tyres, suspension - y'know - the basic stuff. Right now it is way behind. Hybrid technology is miles down the road and F1 is facing extinction because we forgot it was a sport that people wanted to see and HEAR! and spent billions on building computers on wheels. We are trying to feed tigers with sushi! Formula E is for the greenies and techies and they are well served by it but my friends, Bernie has trouble galore with promoters because we are now lumbered with pussy electronic toys that squeak rather than roar and the spectacle of Button and Alonso breaking down every 3 seconds. It won't fly and it's way past due for the daredevils to drive the wheels off those mothers and take back the mountain, by God!

Agree entirely. And the stupid thing is nearly everyone in f1 agrees too, and yet f1 also makes it clear the hybrid cr4p is here to stay :-(

The engines arnt the issue Jem, we had turbo 6s in the 80s and had fantastic sound and racing, it's these bloody regs that take to much away, it's like trying to squeeze a golf ball down a garden hose, it doesn't work.
