it seems honda are missing jacques technical input, and it was jv who contributed most to the 2004 improvement.
interesting, very interesting indeed. bar didn't seem to make huge strides or much progress at all in teh second half of the season. could this be an explanation? maybe too simple an explanation?
senna has God-like status at honda. they give respect when respect is due.

As for Senna, they revered him, and rightly so, that man was a genious re. f1 techs and feedback, he had a gift for everything F1.

"You just don't mess with Jacques Villeneuve" - Murray Walker, 1997 Hungarian GP.
"When Jacques was with us, he was a very aggressive driver, fiercely competitive, mentally hard as nails. Very quick with it, very gifted. A bright fellow, undoubtedly, very intelligent. He was an absolutely born racing driver - look at the way he'd bang wheels with Michael, pass people on the outside, that kind of thing" -Sir Frank Williams on Jacques Villeneuve
"This year, with BMW, JV's going very well, and I'm pleased for him. Whether or not he'll get a drive next year I don't know, but I hope he does, he's an unusual, and very strong addition to the F1 community. A character." - Sir Frank Williams again on Jacques Villeneuve
The Nojvnof1 2006 driver lineup - Jacques Villeneuve, Nico Rosberg, Christian Klein, Scott Speed.

In 1958 Fangio decided to retire. His explanation for that was unique:
Fangio: "I came to test my car and after a few laps struggling with my `cache` I asked to my engineer: What did you change in the car?"
The engineer: "the shock absorbers. Why? They pay us to use..."
Fangio: "..so I realize that my time was come. I was the one that were in danger at the track, how could they change anything without asking me before? That was not the sport I like...besides that I'm too old...".
He was 47 and very quick yet...

*Edit - I should also tell you Webber is my favourite driver in F1 currently (only just ahead of Sato by the slightest bit)
Now lets not forget how Webber destroyed him at Jaguar, and then showed him up while he was in a williams, after being a loud mouth, acting like he was better then Webber.

What a talent!
Pizza Boy is a lot better than Sato!

As for AP, he got shown up by Webber, who was in a much worse car, after his big mouth. Sato has scored over 40 points in f1 over two seasons, not to shabby if you ask me. AP you ask? i don't believe he is into double digits yet. How many podiums? Sato 1, AP 0.
Well i think for once some stats are going taku's way.
I'll await your "he is so dangerous and he crashes and he underporfams" post.

Webber often had a better car than A.P. as he got upgrades that his team-mate did not get until the following races. Anyway, the point I was making was not that A.P. is better than M.W. but that A.P. is better than Sato, which is obvious.
In Takuma Sato’s entire career, over two complete seasons of F1, he has scored a pathetic total of 39 points (2 - 2002, 3 - 2003 and 34 – 2004). To put that in perspective, Jenson Button scored 85 points in 2004 alone, driving the same car as Sato! I haven’t even yet mentioned that Takuma does have a habit of destroying his cars!

This is indeed a very interesting story. It should be remembered that Bar/Honda didn't seem to improve as quickly for the rest of JV's time there and perhaps the improvements last year came equally from JB etc's chassis developments or DR and GW etc but as you say respect where its due. Button is no doubt still learning how to develop the team/car. I also read this as indirect criticism of Sato - it seems even Honda wish they'd kept JV.
That's the key to a freedom that I'll never understand.
