but if you compare them to the r26 the space for the radiators almost looks like the size was cut in half, here is a picture for comparison

I suspect the size insnt as different as you think, also you have to take into account that they may have smaller radiators or that they may have positioned them differently.

If the rear/fuel tank area of the chassis is smaller, then they are able to position them further inboard or at a different angle than last year.

Well, the v8 engine actually generates more heat than the v10, but it is smaller in the 'compartment' than the v10 so there's more room for air to cool it.

As to the radiator openings, they were in cold and wet conditions and wouldn't need larger openings for the cooling. I would suspect the dry weather set-up to have bigger openings
.

I've looked at the photos in Photoshop and am reasonably convinced they are real.

EDIT: Damn, that's a beautiful car.

Are you referring to the intake or the exit?

If you are referring to the intake, They are normally a permanent structure that is glued to the chassis and are not removable for changing conditions.

If you are referring to the exits, then you are correct the louvered exits are interchangeable panels with more ore less louvres for different weather conditions.

Actually, I was referring to the intakes. During '05 and '06 I remember hearing the commentators saying that this or that car's radiator openings are smaller for different racing conditions. This would have been Steve Matchett, who actually worked for Benneton and still knows people at Renault. I had assumed that meant replacing the front intake completely, as they did back with the old qualifying format, but maybe he was only talking about putting a panel in there to close the opening a bit. It made sense because that intake creates a large bit of drag, even with the bargeboards, and any closing of it would help.

Of course, you are associated with a team and I'm sitting here in California, so you'd know best what all this is about!

Its more probable that if certain teams want to change the size of the opening it would be more likely an infill panel.

If you look closely at the cars, you will probably see that the transition between the sidepod opening and the chassis is seamless as in glued to the chassis.

Its a hell of a lot of work to change them.

Makes sense. Matchett was probably talking about a panel the team temporarily inserts into the opening. Or he could have been talking about the exit louvers and I mis-heard him. No worries. Thanks for the input.

I expect the car that appears in the official launch shortly to have slightly different livery. It will prob include some orange in it along with the dark blue and Renault yellow.

Ive found some more photo's of the Renault R27 being tested. May i say that it is easily the best looking 2007 F1 car we have seen at this present time.

I have never been a big Renault fan, but this car is gorgeous.  It has a very clean look to it, I think largely due to that deep blue paint without sponsors cluttering it up.  The toyota/bmw look especially cluttered due to their liverys - accentuates all the wings & such coming out of the sidepods.

Yep, the ligher shade was better at doing that but still this is the best looking 2007 car so far. Apart from the rear wheel things, ubelievably ugly and ruins the flow...maybe it will grow on me later in the year.

I'm sure the car looks great, but It's hard to see any details in that dark blue. I would have preferred Renault go back to the yellow/black/white scheme....ah well, enough of living in the past. I did prefer the mild seven blue, but whatever....

Yeah it is interesting, Ferrari is using them again on the F2007 and now Renault look like they will be using them. It will be interesting to see how many other teams adopt them once their new cars hit the track. They aid in getting rid of heat of the rear brakes and help with the airflow around the area.

Its the same for all teams...
Number 1 driver - Red Camera
Number 2 driver - Black Camera
Test Driver - Yellow Camera

The only time you usually see the yellow ones being used are in Friday Practices though.

The red nose is I presume just something Renault decided to use to further distinguish their cars.

I like the new blue for the Renault cars, can't say I like it that much at the moment as it's virtually sponsorless.
