Well, its time, and there are no pictures as of yet but these details are now released.....

The F2007 is the fifty third single-seater built by the Scuderia Ferrari specifically to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship. The Launch of the F2007 started at 4pm at Maranello, the home base of the Italian team.

The F2007 is the fifty third single-seater built by Ferrari specifically to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship.
The project, known internally as the 658, represents the Scuderia's interpretation of the technical regulations that apply for 2007, with changes principally concerning safety, through the introduction of more stringent front and rear crash tests and the addition of a composite material structure to provide lateral protection to the sides of the driver. These modifications have led to a significant increase in the weight of the car, in the region of just under ten kilogrammes.

The F2007 chassis has been significantly modified when compared to the 248 F1. The design was revised to accommodate a new front suspension that represents a major conceptual innovation, mainly in terms of aerodynamics. The shape of the side-pods and their openings are also revised, based on modifications to the cooling system, which also implies exits for the radiators on the upper part of the bodywork, while the engine air intake is also substantially different. The car has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. The rear of the car is much narrower, taking advantage of the more sculpted shape of the gearbox housing, which again this year is made from carbon fibre. The gearbox itself, which is still mounted longitudinally, is fitted with an innovative quick-shift system (seven plus reverse). The rear suspension is similar to that on the 248 F1, but a significant development programme is planned in this area, in order to get the most out of the system, based on making progress in understanding the behaviour of the 2007 tyres. The front and rear aerodynamic configuration is also expected to change considerably before the start of the World Championship. The position of the rear view mirrors seen on the 2006 car remains unchanged and the same goes for the exhaust system.

In accordance with the regulations that come into force this year, the basic structure of the engine remains the same as the one homologated at the end of last season. Therefore, the 056 engine continues as a load bearing member and is again mounted longitudinally. Based on what is permitted in the regulations, the following modifications have been carried out to the engine signed off with the FIA in October 2006:
· the combustion chamber, the valves, the inlet and exhaust chambers, all aimed at optimising the torque curve, given the engine rev limit of 19,000 rpm;
· the piston, the piston pin and the piston cooling jets to aim for the best possible reliability when running at the limit of 19,000 rpm;
· the fluid systems (water and oil) and components to facilitate the integration of the 056 into the new car.

As usual, during the design and development phase of the complete car, the technical partners played an important role. A significant part was played by Shell in terms of fuel and lubricants, by the Fiat Research Centre in the use of simulation systems and by Brembo in developing the braking system. As is now traditional, a great deal
of attention was paid to the performance and optimisation of the materials used, to the design stage and to quality control, striving to maximise the performance level and to ensure the highest possible standard of safety.

Wow, this new Ferrari looks beautiful. The front nose cone reminds me a little of the RB2's on your third picture ykick.

And those yellow contraptions in the side pods, are they permanent or placed there just for the presentation?

That is not a very good sign for Ferrari as the RB2 handled like a lubricated pig walking on a polished wood floor.

Those are just blanking panels so we cant see inside.

Either there is something new in there, or most likely the car is not complete with the ducting and radiators missing.

They are just covers, may be either to hide something or protect it from dust or other elements.

Just noticed the Ferrari and Renault didnt have the wing planes on the side of their nose cones like last year but the Toyota does which means 1 of 2 things.

1. They have become obsolete for some reason and Toyota is the last to know...like with their sidepods.
2. They are not finished car's.

I'm suspecting its number 1 seeing as Renault where doing an aero test so i'd assume the aero would need to be complete for them to test it. (nose winglets would effect the aeroflow to the rear so would make any aero there give false readings to its final effect)

Not necessarily, we only had a couple of pics of the Renault. for a aero test you could have many configurations to try out. there's no reason there is not a nose with winglets in the truck to try later.

I thought of that but remembered Monza(?) the fastest track top speed wise they still used winglets on the nose just cut down alot.

It also depends on the overall package, just because the wings work on some cars, it does not mean they work on them all.

These wings are there to direct airflow, maybe the Renault does not need them and the Toyota/crate does.

I like this line:

"The design was revised to accommodate a new front suspension that represents a major conceptual innovation, mainly in terms of aerodynamics."

Interesting. I thought this wasn't allowed....ah well, for Ferrari, anything goes.

man, all the pictures are at such bad angles. and no Puma, innovation is only allowed for one year ala Mad Max proclamation

too bad teams can have movable wings, think of what they could do if they had servos in the wings to move the wings like flaps of an airplane to help turn the car

and is the official name now actually the f2007? i found the new naming system cooler. Ferrari 248 F1 just sounded better then F2006

I agree with that. Ferrari issuing no photo's of the sides & rear of the car certainly lead you to believe that Ferrari has something to hide in that area and they want whatever they have developed to remain a secret for as long as possible.

Do any of you guys think that red is more of the old scarlet Ferrari red and not the Marlboro red as in recent years?? It might be the lighting, not sure.

If your never over eight-tenths, or whatever, because your thinking about a shunt, your not going as quick as you can. And if your not doing that, your not a racing driver. Some guys in Formula 1... well, to me, they're not racing drivers. They drive racing cars, that's all. They're doing half a job. And in that case, I wonder why they do it at all..."

ahh, now you can see some detail

the wing/shield things on the side pods looks interesting, not the traditional shape, more square. the end plates of the front wing also went through some changes

and if you look, the car doesn't have any of the electronic fixtures on it, no antennas or such which makes me think the reason the yellow things are in there because there isn't anything in there yet

looking at these hi-res pics shows just how beautiful the car is

First laps in the F2007

At foggy Fiorano this morning, Felipe Massa turned his first laps in Ferrari’s 2007 challenger, the F2007.

The car, which currently features 2006 front and rear wings, is to undergo extensive testing over the next two months and according to Aldo Costa, Head of Chassis design, the car arriving in Melbourne in March will feature an all-new aero package.

The current F2007 does however feature all new suspension to get the best out of the new control Bridgestone rubber, as well as a new quick shift seven-speed gearbox.

On the engine side, the F2007 features the same 056 powerplant as last year as per the rules package but has been modified to allow for the reduction to 19,000 rpm demanded in 2007.

Kimi Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher and Luca Montezemolo were all on hand for the first laps in the F2007.
