Those were the two came to mind when I made that first post. Also, neither Al Gore nor Michael Moore came from the South, and since both they (and a lot of others before them) made it big they are proof that they must be representative of a much larger population of horses' arses.

I agree. On the otherhand i think Education standards are just as important as raw intelligence. That is where i think America is lacking as your education system (particularly history) as from what ive heard it is far too centred on American history and doesnt really do history on world events from other countries perspectives. For example i learnt about Australian history in years 9 and 10 but for years 11 and 12 i learnt about WW1 from the perspective of every major country which was involved and i also learnt about the history of Cuba and Russia.

I have to say, though, I was easily able to transfer her to a much better school, so I would say you are partly right. The standards are quite low, but not all schools teach to that low standard.

I personally think that in every school in the world there should be a subject called world history as that would eliminate alot of the ignorance in the world about other countries. I dont know about other people but i found learning about Cubian and Russian history fascinating as i was learning something new and it was on subjects which i previously had no knowledge about.

a) Have no idea where Southamerica is. Many of them were surprised that Southamerica is south of USA!
c) And don't even get me started on your insistence in ignoring the metric system!
Though I know it is being taught at schools
This doesn't mean Americans are dumber than other countries, of course. But they seem to lack some things that are considered rather basic here. Anyways, I have no idea how educated the average Argentinian you can find on the Internet is, so I have no idea if we are even worse or not

That is true but i am perfectly willing to admitt that my knowledge of geography in America is extremely poor. It would be like me asking you to point to where dunnydoo is on a map. I can however point to nearly every country in the world which is more important than knowing where everything is in America.

While I hate to agree with ykick, he is right in saying that the high schools in america need change. Having just graduated just under a year ago I have realized after getting to university, how little I learned. No child left behind is completely killing small schools and probably has close to the same effect on larger ones. My graduating class had just under 50 people, coming from rural Iowa, and the opportunity for advanced classes were very little. If I had wanted to I could have had all my required classes done been able to graduate by the end of my sophmore year so basically my last to years were spent treading water until I got to leave. I did get the opportunity to take calculus and some world civilizations courses from the local college, which I regretably didn't take to seriously (didn't think the credits would transfer but it turns out that they did). On top of all the a lot of the good teachers are retiring and being replaced with mediocre teachers who are just there because they couldn't hack it in the corporate world (there are a select few new teachers that are also good teachers). It's just seems to be from my point a view a great big clusterfu<k.

The only problem I would have with this is that you fail to mention the 'no child left behind' failure is more due to the State's failed implementation than the whole idea of it. Seriously, the federal government passed the standards and left the states to individually decide what to do. That has led to state-wide corruption of a good idea. The feds also dropped the ball by not regulating it on a national level.
As you've just come from High School, I'll bow to your greater knowledge in everything else you've stated.
