Id be happy with regular podiums this year as it will be a huge step up from the RB2 which was the slowest midfeild car by the end of the 2006 season.

It was a huge disappointment though i am still really suprised at how competitive the RB2 was at Monaco compared to all the other tracks. I guess the RB2 had alot of mechanical grip but lacked decent areo grip.

RB2's Vee-Keel System and Ferrari engine were not working good ... that's what they paid for hehe ... at Monaco Red Bull was so competitive as u said but still Klien DNF :( but a podium from DC was gr8 ..

Even R3 gave Jaguar a Podium at Monza !

WOW :clap3: what a beautiful looking car :naughty: Easily the the best looking aerodynamicaly of all the cars released this year. No surprises of its Mclareness looks incredibly like the
MP4-21 in this photo apart from the slightly platypus bill looking nose. Also looks alot smaller then all the other cars and much more sculpted and streamline looking.

Even the livery is a small step from last years (love the pin stripes)
they even get away with the terible looking yellow nose :clap3:

Yes, I find that interesting....and many will overlook the implications of it.

Good progress for Red Bull at Valencia

Red Bull Racing had its first proper test with its new car, running this week at the Valencia circuit. The 2007 car, code-name RB3, had its shakedown courtesy of David
Coulthard on 24 January in Barcelona and two days later, Mark Webber got his hands on it for his first go behind the wheel.

And it was our Aussie driver who stayed in the c#ckpit for the first day of testing here in Valencia on Tuesday, handing over to David on Wednesday. Those of you with children will know how they fight if they only have one toy to play with, so the Milton Keynes factory crew worked flat out and sent over a second example of RB3 so that each driver had his own car to drive on Thursday. Only Webber ran on the final day, as, having done the most miles, RB3-01 was given a quick strip down and turn around in preparation for the next test.

As with any new car, the initial focus was on evaluating the many new systems, not least the integration with the new Renault engine, as well as sorting out software on
elements such as traction control, gear selection and engine braking. David had a gearbox glitch on the second day, while evaluating aero and suspension set-up changes.

"We had some teething problems which means we did not complete as many laps as we would have liked," said Head of Race and Test Engineering, Paul Monaghan. "However, we learnt a lot and came up with fixes for some of the problems we encountered and we made progress throughout the four days. We are already building up a good relationship with the guys at Renault and we are now looking forward to an even more productive test at Jerez, where we start running on Tuesday (February 6) with two cars and both race drivers."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is good to hear as it sounds like Red Bull were even remotely concerned about lap times at Valencia. I especially like the sentance i highlighted in bold as i imagine Coulthard and Webber each grapping a side of the Rb3 and pulling it towards them while screaming about how it was their turn to play with the new toy  :D

Ah, I responded in another thread to DC's worries about the 'slow' RB3. I think your post here, ykick, shows that my assumptions were correct....they are still shaking-down the car. I suspect they will be faster once all the greeblies are put on and the gearing, suspension, etc. are properly set-up.

Fingers crossed that this improvement can deliver the goods :prayhands:

Quote

With winter testing almost behind us, there are a few teams left to complete one further attempt to get the most out of their 2007 spec packages, one of which is Red Bull Racing. While the new RB3 has improved after the first two tests of the year, it is not yet enough as the gap to the front has only been reduced from 3 down to 2 seconds.

As explained in our spies at winter testing report, the problem is that they are losing rear end downforce under braking and in the corners. The only good thing is the topspeed. It has now been discovered that the car had been designed by two groups with the rear developed by the old aero group in the new windtunnel, and the front end is an Adrian Newey product.

Newey trusted the figures from the CFD, because the new windtunnel was just too new to deliver good data, but it has now turned out that the figures from the windtunnel are not relating to the actual reality, therefore Newey and his team, revolving around Peter Prodromou, designed a complete new aero package on the CFD computers with a new frontwing, rearwing, bargeboards and undertray.

This will be tested during this week’s final test at Magny-Cours and according to the computer data the progress should be 7 or 8 tenths of a second, so there is still some hope in the Red Bull camp that they can move up into the midfield
