I forgot all about the BMW - Sauber launch!!!

Yay, another late one for me tonight then ;)

The launch can be seen via a live stream on the website: www.bmw-sauber-f1.com

Fingers crossed the F1.08 will be a challenger for McLaren & Ferrari this year.

I expect a car looking very similar to last year’s car. I personally don't think Willy Rampf and his team will be game enough to deviate on a large scale from a successful F1.07 design concept.

the F1.07 was a good car, and building on that concept can only bring good things. and they did have a bit of a head start. after they locked up 2nd last season they devoted most of their resources to development according to Dr. Mario.

I'm very interested and would be quite surprised to see a simplistic evolution. I don't think BMW are that kind of team and in consideration of the resources they posses, I'm very much intrigued to see what they have done. Taking into account the home page and the sheet that covers the beast, some things look a little interesting.

With that said, during this post I came across this and I quote:

"It looks quite different from our last car, because the 2007 one was very simple.

The interviews on the stream show nothing more than confidence in the work they have done. Does look very nice!

I'm struggling with my feed, lol. Struggling to grasp a closer look with clarity.

WOW it looks mean  !

Tidbits of information gathered, from Willy Rampf (via the feed)

Put forth a strong focus on the aerodynamic stability of the car. Focused also on increasing the mechanical grip and feedback of the car. The cars physical appearance sees a larger front wing. One of the more interesting and physical aspects of the car that really caught 'my' eye was the appearance of the side pod and engine cover which had been lowered to accommodate and improve air flow to the rear of the car.

nice.

"Hey, why don't we put some winglets here...and here...and here...and here..."

Anyways, IMHO they already had a winning car last year. A winning car is not enough, though. You need winning testers, winning engineers, winning pit crew and winning drivers. One of the first things Renault focused in 2003-2004 was to properly train their pitcrew. Ferrari had the shortest pitstops and almost zero screw ups at pitstops. It's no use to have the best drivers and best car, if your crew takes a minute to change a tire adn puts the wrong amount of fuel, or they don't devise the right strategy.

If they can work out those things, they could easily be up there with the Ferraris, the Maccas and the Renaults (because Renault will be there, I promise!)

Maybe in the second half, i can't see them jump from last year to be competing with Ferrari...

I think for the first half Ferrari will dominate and then the challenge MAY come from Renault and BMW...

I was hoping it'd be all pink for the new T-Mobile sponsorship.

It's.  Okay.  It doesn't have a bridge wing, at least.  But by being the cleanest (and probably the slowest), the Force India is still the best car.

yea, i know, but I think had he not died that tragic day he would have thought twice about retiring. And maybe he would have retired from F1 but i bet he would have done some other form of racing. He not only won if F1 but also a lot of other categories he entered in. Don't forget, he won Le mans in '65

back to the bmw. Damn, it almost took the prize from the Ferrari as the most beautiful car. Though the lines are, dare I say it, slightly better then the ferrari, the red still puts the scudaria's car over the top.

I reckon so, bmw usually don't mess around with their aero (except for the infamous "twin towers" they had banned haha).  Once they stick something on the cars outside of testing, it's pretty certain to stay there for a while at least.  I hope so anyway, I wanna see this wing in action!

For your information, BMW Sauber are normally one of the fastest pit crews in the pit lane.

Strategy is one of the weaker areas right now, but I guess that comes over time.

As for last years car, it was never going to be a winner with the bullet proof Ferraris and Mclarens in front.

Sorry, I should have made it clear that I was drifting off topic there. My comments weren't aimed specifically at BMW. My argument is: the Schumacher era was not just a product of his genius, nor Todt's, nor Brawn's. It was the sinergy between those three, plus a flawless pitcrew, a bullet proof car, etc.

A fast car is only a part. Last year's BMW was by no means a bad car. With a better interaction between the remaining factors, they could have been much closer to the Ferraris. Yes, they might not have become WCC, but would have surely be a bigger threat. Usually people just focuses on the car's speed or the driver's skills. But without the rest, all you have is a fast Super Aguri.
