That is not a good sign as 1 thing the French arnt good at making is combat aircraft. If the R28 looked like a giant Pastry then then it would be a quick car.

Following this reasoning, shouldn't it look more like a condom?  A letter from France?

I think the car looks great, and a major recovery is on the horizon.........

You obviously are too young to remember the Durex-sponsored cars.....

Gives the phrase "Hamilton needs fresh rubber especially given the damp conditions" a whole new perspective :)

1) Should have gone to Specsavers :D
2) Agreed, think the Renault will be more of a force to be reckoned with in 2008.

RENAULT INTRODUCE THE R28

Renault have launched their R28 and are hopeful that this car, piloted by Fernando Alonso, will see them return to the head of the pack.

The challenger was unveiled in Paris and has the same livery as last season's car.

Renault's F1 president Bernard Rey said: "We expect to see the team back in its normal place, fighting at the front of the field. "This is the target the team has set for the new car. On the technical side, everybody has worked hard to overcome the problems encountered last year.

The Enstone constructor failed to defend their World title in 2007, but Technical Director Bob Bell said they have moved to solve the problems which blighted the R28's predecessor.

"2007 was a very poor year by our standards," he said. "For 2008, there are high expectations inside and outside the team, and it is down to us to give the drivers a competitive car. We have put the problems from 2007 behind us and in terms of the car design, we have looked at the problem afresh.

"The team pushed very hard in all areas, and particularly on the aerodynamics. The front end of the car has come in for special attention with a brand new front wing and the front suspension. The rear end has also been heavily reworked, and we haven't neglected the basics.

"The car ran reliably in its first test, and we made encouraging progress on performance development last week. We are confident that the advances we have seen in the wind tunnel will be reflected on track."

Ok...here we go again...Renault is coming back!

Didnt put pics...the car is the same...

The extra weight of the new hair is going to add six tenths a lap back, meaning the Renault will flounder in the middle of the points area again.  Nando will, however, win at least once.

Talking about weight, is it just me or does Fernando look like he has gained a few extra kilo's over the winter :eusa_think:

That bridge wing is weird....about two thirds of it is raised at the front with the trailing section lower than the leading edge.  That doesn't seem to make sense to a layman aerodynamicist like me.

I don't think the R28 is still a real title contender, but I am confident that it will trash the BMWs. A single victory this year would be a realistic objective, taking in account last year's performance.
And let's not forget that Renault is a team that keeps evolving the car continuously.

Above all that, add 6/10ths a lap gained thanks to Nando... *runs away, avoiding the stones thrown at him*

@angie: so, you decided to post again! :P

Renault have announced today that Sakon Yamamoto will be a test driver for the team in 2008. Interesting news to say the least, I would assume that Renault are looking to take their roadshow to more asian destinations in 2008 and having a asian driver fits the bill perfectly. Another interesting fact is that Sakon and Fernando are the only two drivers in the Renault squad that have race experience, with Sakon having completed 14 GP's.

I think that it's a pretty wise signing. He has a lot of potential a bit of race experiance and is quite young still.

I agree, most of the testing that Fernando or Nelsinho don't complete will be taken care of by Romain Grosjean, before they let Sakon loose.

Grandprix.com has a good article of this appointment...:
Yamamoto joins Renault

The ING Renault F1 Team has signed a deal with Sakon Yamamoto to give him the role of test development driver for the 2008 season. This is most odd as the team already has a third driver and a test and reserve driver and the impression one gets is that Yamamoto's presence in the team may be related to the desires of a sponsor or because he is bringing backing to the team. The team seems to be well-funded but then the ING deal may have had performance clauses based on the number of points scored which would mean a lower than expected budget this year. The car certainly has some spaces available, despite the arrival of Pepe Jeans London.

With a limited amount of testing allowed each year the chances of all three test, third and reserve drivers getting a decent run are pretty small as Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet (who now wants everyone stop calling him Junior) both have good reason to want to test as much as possible: Alonso to improve the car and Piquet to learn as much as possible.

Yamamoto is expected to play an important role in the Renault F1 Roadshow programme.
http://www.grandprix...ns/ns20012.html

The ING angle makes sense...

Renault to debut 'W' wing in Australia
Feb.6 (GMM)

Renault will introduce a radical new rear wing concept when the 2008 season kicks off in Australia next month, a source close to the French team has said.

The anonymous source told the Dutch website f1today.nl that the French squad has decided not to use the wing in pre-season testing so that rival teams cannot copy it.

"I have seen it in the wind tunnel and it is totally unique," the source, revealing that the concept has been nicknamed the 'W' wing in reference to its shape, said.

It is reportedly hoped that the 'W' wing will be worth up to five tenths per lap for the R28 single seater, to be raced in 2008 by Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr.

Williams may also be toying with the 'W' concept, f1today.nl added.

Source: http://www.totalf1.c...g_in_Australia/

Smart move by Renault if this concept works. Other teams will find it extremely differcult to test and develop the wing on their cars whilst we are in the intial three fly away rounds of the Championship. Renault must be very confident this will work, to not test it on the car for real.
