Highlights of the GP2 Sprint Race from Silverstone.

Felipe Nasr kept himself in championship contention with a dominant lights-to-flag victory in the GP2 Sprint Race at Silverstone.

The Brazilian started from the inside of the front-row and immediately got past pole-sitter Stephane Richelmi on the run to Abbey, never to be seen again by the chasing pack.

However, despite the victory, Nasr only took seven points out of Jolyon Palmer’s lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship after the DAMS driver impressed once again in front of his home fans to work his way up to fourth and minimise the damage the reverse grid race could have caused to his advantage.

Reaction from Felipe Nasr, who took the chequered flag in the GP2 sprint race at Silverstone.

“I’m just very happy; it didn’t take long to have another win. Thanks to these guys, who have been working so hard,” Nasr said.

“It was a shame for us yesterday, but we got it back today with a win. In the first early laps I tried to build a gap to Stefano [Coletti] and then tried to look after the tyres.

“When he started to get closer again I was able to respond. Then I just wanted to make sure I brought the car home. It’s a good way to finish the weekend.”

Between Nasr and Palmer were Stefano Coletti and Johnny Cecotto. Coletti, the Racing Engineering driver, made great progress early in the race to go from fifth on the grid to second, before nursing his car to the finish after reporting a lack of power in the closing stages. He was perhaps lucky, though, to escape a penalty for creeping at the start.

Cecotto, meanwhile, showed once again how much he has matured as a driver over the last year as he absorbed pressure from Palmer during the second half of the race to clinch the final spot on the podium.

Julian Leal was fifth for Carlin ahead of Richelmi, who eventually finished sixth, just four tenths ahead of Saturday’s winner Mitch Evans after a race long battle between the DAMS and Russian Time drivers.

Marco Sorensen completed the points in eighth to round off an impressive debut weekend for the Dane.

Next up for the GP2 Series is Hockenheim on July 18-20 and you can see all the action from practice, qualifying and both races live on Sky Sports F1.
