Kimi Raikkonen out of Silverstone test after 150mph crash

Ferrari are resting Kimi Raikkonen from this week's test session at Silverstone to aid his recovery from his high-speed crash at the British Grand Prix.

Raikkonen, 34, bruised his legs in a crash at more than 150mph during lap one of Sunday's race.

Marussia's Jules Bianchi will stand in for Raikkonen on Wednesday - but the Finn is expected to be fit to race in the German Grand Prix on 20 July.

"Kimi is fine. He wanted to drive," said a Ferrari spokesman.

"But we want him to rest to let his bruises heal before Germany."

Raikkonen sustained an impact of 47G - 47 times the force of gravity - in his crash on the Wellington Straight.

The 2007 world champion ran wide at turn five and lost control as the car landed after hitting the bump between track and grass as he rejoined the circuit.

He speared into the barriers on the outside of the track before spinning back on to the track, where his car was clipped by Felipe Massa's Williams as the Brazilian tried to avoid contact.

The incident took both cars out of the race and caused a one-hour stoppage for the barrier to be repaired.

Three-time champion Niki Lauda, the non-executive chairman of the Mercedes team, said Raikkonen should have rejoined the track more cautiously.

Bianchi, 24, is a member of Ferrari's driver development academy and has been drafted in to help the team with their test programme.

Development driver Pedro De La Rosa will drive on Tuesday, the first day of the test.

Team leader Fernando Alonso, who finished sixth in the British Grand Prix, is at the team's base in Maranello this week working in the simulator.
