Ferrari on Alonso: team interest is highest priority

As Ferrari continue to struggle to lift its car’s competitiveness, rumours about tension between the team’s leading driver Fernando Alonso and the Scuderia are persistent. The team confirmed to F1technical that the car is the highest priority.

This year the Scuderia have gone through sweeping changes. After the slump in Bahrain Stefano Domenicali resigned. Summer brought an excessive change in the engine department when long-serving Ferrari engine guru Luca Marmorini was axed. After the Italian GP Luca di Montezemolo has withdrawn after having been the first man of the whole Ferrari company for almost 23 years.

In recent month more teams have bid defiance to Ferrari to try and lure away Fernando Alonso, arguably the best driver on the grid. A team’s spokesperson confirmed to F1technical.net that Ferrari’s sole goal is to pay maximum attention to the car’s development and refuse to waste any time in getting involved in the round of rumours.

“The Team’s priority is to focus on developing and improving the car. Mr Mattiacci and his technical team are pursuing maximum efforts to shorten as much as possible the timeframe needed to get back to the top.”

The spokesperson also added that all the news about Fernando’s potential departure can be regarded as speculations.

"The track speaks facts, the rest are just rumours at the moment."

Alonso and Ferrari are indeed in the midst of press attention amidst their 5th failed attempt to secure the Formula One World Championship together.
