Lewis Hamilton remains the richest sportsman in Britain with a fortune of £88m but Wayne Rooney has overtaken Jenson Button to be in second place in the 2015 Sunday Times Sport Rich List.

F1 world champion Hamilton, who lives in Monaco, remains on pole position in the list - and his fortune has spiralled by £20m on last year, the largest rise of any of the top 10.

Rooney's overall wealth is up £12m to £72m, £1m ahead of racing driver Button, and the Manchester United and England skipper remains on course to join David Beckham as the only British footballer to amass a fortune of more than £100m.

Andy Murray is now fourth on the list with wealth put at £48m, ahead of footballers Rio Ferdinand (£44m) and Steven Gerrard (£42m).

Luol Deng, the Miami Heat NBA star and former south London schoolboy is next, having amassed a fortune of £40m, the same figure as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who is a new entry in the top 10.

He pips his former player, Frank Lampard (£39m), who is ninth.

Arsenal's Arsene Wenger (£38m) is tied in 10th position with Ryan Giggs, now the assistant manager of Manchester United, along with two golfers, new entry Sir Nick Faldo and world No 1 Rory McIlory.
