The clock is ticking – Sergio Perez

Force India driver Segio Perez knows the difficulty of getting a seat in a top F1 team, but he is fully committed to his will and dream to become world champion. The Mexican is adamant to grab a competitive car by impressing with Force India.

Sergio Perez has enjoyed fantastic results with a few highlights so far in 2016. The Mexican is currently eighth in the Drivers’ Championship and has already reached the rostrum two times. With two brilliant drives Perez stood on the podium in Monaco and Baku. In addition to the two podiums he finished four times in the top 10.

Perez was linked with Ferrari until the Italian marque announced earlier this month that it retains the services of its last world champion, Kimi Räikkönen. As there are no other vacancies at top teams, Perez is likely to stay with the British-Indian team.

The Guadalajara-born driver admitted this and the next season are important for his carrier.

“I knew before the season that this year would be an important season. A year which can decide over my future,” said Perez to German Auto Motor und Sport.

“I am 26 and not the youngest any more. That is why the fear is growing that I would never reach my big goal. If I don't become a world champion in the next years, I would have the feeling that I failed my big dream.”

The seven-time podium scorer admitted that there are many factors in F1 that drivers can’t control. Pure driver’s performance is not the only decisive thing that determines driver’s selection.

“There are so many good drivers and so little good cockpits.”

“I know that it not only depends on my performance. Many things play a part which I can’t control. I can only give my best. I cannot do anything more.”

This season is the sixth year in F1 for Perez. He started his carrier at Sauber, then joined McLaren for 2013 and signed for Sahara Force India in the following year.
