Red Bull have made a big decision this week by choosing to switch from Renault engines to Honda engines for next season, but Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul says that he believes Renault still have the more competitive power unit.

The Red Bull engine saga has rumbled on for a long time and fans of the team will have been pleased when the team announced that they have decided on their engine supplier for next year.

However, it is still up in the air whether it will be the right decision. Red Bull won four consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ titles with Renault engines between 2010-2013, and Abiteboul still believes his engine is better than Honda’s.

“Clearly the direction of things for Honda is positive, much more reliable, and it seems also that they have done a step,” Abiteboul told Sky Sports.

“I still believe that we are more competitive and the success of Red Bull on track and, touch wood, there will be more of that.

“In the rest of the season and we will be doing what we can to make sure that we continue to deliver in accordance with what they expect. I think this is showing what the engine is capable of doing.”
