Stoffel Vandoorne believes that he should have had more chances at McLaren following his axe from the side that was announced a few weeks ago.

Vandoorne's time in Formula One (for now) looks like it could be coming to an end, with very limited options available for the Belgian.

Sauber and Toro Rosso have been two sides linked with Vandoorne; but as it stands, the McLaren man has no home for next year.

Vandoorne is doing his best to remain positive, though, and has even compared it to Haas driver Kevin Magnussen's former situation; when he was dropped by McLaren.

"Kevin has been through this situation and I think he really benefited from a fresh start," Vandoorne told F1i.com. "I feel a little bit the same, to be honest.

"It's been two difficult years and not having had the tools to really fight for anything. So I'm trying to make the most out of what is left this season and then actually look forward to a fresh start."

Vandoorne's poor season hasn't been entirely his fault with McLaren enduring one of their worst seasons in recent history and the Belgian driver reiterated this and believes he should have been given more of a chance at the Woking-based team.

"I think I've been at McLaren for probably the two most difficult years of the history of McLaren," Vandoorne added. "So there's not really much more I can say about that. It's a shame it didn't work out.

"This is the way it is sometimes. It's a shame I didn't get better opportunities."
