F1 confirms 2022 pre-season testing dates

F1 has confirmed the dates of 2022's pre-season tests, with two sessions planned before the first Grand Prix weekend.

Formula 1 will stage two separate tests prior to the start of the 2022 season, with the dates being formally confirmed.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will play host to the first appearance of the new cars with a three-day test from 23-25 February.

As previously reported by RacingNews365.com, the first test will not be broadcast live on television. In the absence of live coverage, a 60-minute summary will be broadcast via F1 TV each day.

Although teams originally asked for five days of testing in Barcelona, those have been reduced to three.

The smaller teams, in particular, were keen for the five days, given they have fewer high-tech simulators compared to the top teams, with every moment of testing being particularly important in 2022 given the new regulations.

Sakhir to host the second test

The teams will then decamp to Bahrain for the second test, where the Sakhir circuit will host another three-day session from 10-12 March. This test will be broadcast live on F1 TV.

As well as the six days of official testing, teams may opt for a filming day. All the teams are permitted two such days per season, restricted to 100 kilometres of track time with their current car, using specifically designated Pirelli tyres.

These filming days are typically used by teams to 'shake down' their cars to iron out any niggles ahead of official testing. Red Bull and Mercedes have both confirmed their intent to host such a day before the first test in Barcelona.
