Norris reflects on Piastri battle: I made his life easier

It was another tough weekend for McLaren at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finishing in P15 and P17 respectively. The pair did get to engage in their first on-track battle though, which Norris has since given his take on.

Lando Norris feels that he made teammate Oscar Piastri's "life easier" during their battle in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It was another difficult weekend for McLaren in Jeddah, with both drivers finding themselves racing near the back of the field after Norris picked up debris from Piastri's incident with Pierre Gasly on the opening lap of the event. The pair ended up battling for position in the latter stages of the race and Piastri got ahead, leading to the Australian finishing in 15th while Norris ended the day in 17th. Williams' Logan Sargeant separated the two in 16th.

Norris on Piastri battle

Norris enjoyed his first on-track fight with Piastri, but says that he did not make things too difficult for his teammate. "It's good. [It was] my first time ever racing Oscar, so it was good fun," Norris told media, including RacingNews365.com . "The team told me not to make it too hard for him so, in the end, I let him go. I probably could have got the Williams, I think I would have got the Williams myself. "I made his life easier, let him have a chance of getting past the Williams, which he did."

Norris rues events of race

In terms of the rest of the event, Norris admits that he struggled to bounce back from the damage he sustained early on in the race. "It was actually a really good start, [but] I got all the damage from Oscar and Gasly's incident, which took off my front wing," the Briton said. "So I had to box, do a nose box change. It just cost too much time, so [it] ruined my race." Norris feels that the MCL60's performance in the Grand Prix was slightly worse than expected. "I would say [it was] a bit worse in the race than we were hoping for," he explained. "We can't follow very well. We struggled in the dirty air too much. Nothing new, I would say, just confirmation of what we know we have, what we struggle with."
