'New ideas' with car setup enabled Magnussen to take Haas' first points

The Haas driver had a disappointing start to the 2023 season in Bahrain, but fought back in Saudi Arabia to snatch the final point away from Yuki Tsunoda.

Kevin Magnussen has claimed that 'new ideas' around car setup enabled him to take Haas' first Formula 1 points of the season in Saudi Arabia. The team struggled to get into the top ten in Bahrain, then appeared to be off the pace again in Jeddah on Friday during the race runs. But they managed to turn around their fortinues for qualifying, with both drivers getting through to Q2. Magnussen then fought with Yuki Tsunoda in the closing stages of the race for the final point, which he achieved after pulling off an ambitious move into Turn 1 with five laps to go. The Dane says he worked with the team on the car setup over the weekend, which he claims helped with his driving style. "It didn't really suit my driving style and how we started the season, I think we found some new ideas which are how I like it better," he told media, including RacingNews365.com . "We obviously proved it a little bit here but has to be verified. It's not actually that big, it means a lot to a driver in terms of the feeling."

Magnussen: Good step made between Friday and Saturday

Magnussen claims a 'good step' made between Friday and Saturday enabled them to turn around their fortunes over the weekend. He added: "I think we made a good step for Saturday. We really struggled in Friday practice, but turned it around found something. "I hope we can carry that on and prove that we've learned something."
