Russell and Tsunoda penalised after Monaco GP practice

George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda have been hit by the Monaco Grand Prix stewards after breaching the pit lane speed limit during second practice.

Mercedes has been handed a small fine of €100 after Russell was clocked at 60.2kph, 0.2kph over the limit in the principality - which is lower than most circuits on the calendar due to the tight, restrictive nature of the pit lane.

The stewards' report read: "Car 63 [Russell] exceeded the pit lane speed limit which is set at 60kph for this event by 0.2 km/h."

But Tsunoda was given an official warning by stewards for his failure to lower his speed below the limit having been found to have been travelling at 76.2kph - 16.2kph above the limit.

Japanese driver Tsunoda had been returning to his garage with damage to the front left of his car as well as a punctured rear-left tyre following contact with the inside barrier at the Nouvelle Chicane.

The more egregious breaking of the limit has also resulted in a heftier fine for his AlphaTauri team, the Faenza-based outfit set back by €1,000.

"Car 22 [Tsunoda] exceeded the pit lane speed limit which is set at 60 kph for this event by 16.2kph. The car was entering the pits having struck the barrier at Turn 11, and the Stewards were concerned that speeding in a pit lane by over 16 kph when there was unknown damage to the car was potentially dangerous.

"The driver acknowledged that he failed to engage the pit speed limiter and understood the potential of the situation. The Stewards issued a warning in addition to the mandated fine."
