Formula 1 wants to become more sustainable and operate carbon-neutral by 2023. To achieve this goal, management has much to gain in putting together the calendar more efficiently. YouTube channel Off The Grid made an attempt to come up with the most sustainable calendar.

Whether the calendar is feasible is a second thing. After all, Formula 1 management has contracts with many circuits, which cannot be changed overnight. Nevertheless, the YouTube channel has done their best to put together a calendar, taking into account the weather and fan experience. To get the least amount of mileage from Grand Prix to Grand Prix, the calendar could look like this:

Also in this fictional reality, the season starts in Bahrain and then stays in the Middle East. After Bahrain, the F1 circus travels to Qatar, Abu Dhabi and then Jeddah, to kick off the European season via Baku. Hungary kicks off the European tour, which ends at Silverstone via Austria, Imola, Monza, Monaco, Barcelona, Spa and Zandvoort.

It is then time for the summer break, which gives all teams the opportunity to ship all materials to North America by boat, a more sustainable way. Formula 1 will resume the season in Montreal, before racing in Miami, Austin, Mexico and Las Vegas. Asia and Oceania will also be visited, starting in Japan, before travelling to another continent one more time after Grands Prix in Singapore and Australia, to finish the season in style at Interlagos, Brazil.

The current calendar amounts to 132,165 kilometres of travel distance, equivalent to 3.3 times a lap around the earth. This alternative calendar amounts to 'only' 56.441 kilometres of travel distance from circuit to circuit.
