Carlos Sainz surprised friend and foe with his victory in Australia. The Spaniard has not had an easy time in recent months and was overjoyed with his victory. It had to come from afar.

The press conference reveals how tough the past few months have been for Sainz. "I think it's not only the last two weeks. It's the whole start to the year in general, how the year started with the news of the non-renewal [of my contract with Ferrari]," Sainz looked back on the start of the season and the announcement that Lewis Hamilton will take his place at Ferrari in 2025.

Feel of uncertainty in Sainz

"Then you get yourself fit you get yourself ready for the start of the season, pushing flat out and then you get Bahrain you do a good podium, you say okay now the season is starting well and I can keep the momentum going and suddenly boom missing a race in Jeddah."

"Then the operation, long long days in bed not knowing if I was going to be back in time and obviously a lot of unknowns. Am I going to be back fit? Am I going to be back feeling still good with the car? Then you come back and win so yes what I said on the radio, life is a roller coaster sometimes but it can be really nice and good to you sometimes. Just letting it sink in and enjoy the moment."

In that respect, Sainz is responding to all setbacks in the best possible way, namely by performing on track. In Bahrain, Sainz already made a good impression and in Australia he was again the stronger of the two Ferrari drivers. Competitors' team bosses will only have the Spaniard even more in their sights because of this.
