Gravel Triggers Emergency Kill Switch To End Hulkenberg's Barcelona Grand Prix

Nico Hulkenberg suffered one of the most unusual retirements in recent Formula 1 memory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The Audi driver was running in 10th place on lap 28 and looked set to score his first point for the team before disaster struck. A piece of gravel kicked up by Liam Lawson struck Hulkenberg's car and triggered an emergency safety kill switch, causing the entire system to shut down instantly. The switch is designed to completely cut engine power in the event of an emergency, but nobody could have predicted it would be activated in such a freak manner.
