Lotus set to drop DRD after Friday practice

Lotus is likely to abandon its Drag Reduction Device (DRD) for the remainder of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, following an inconclusive opening day of practice. With light showers affecting the first 90-minute session at Spa-Francorchamps, the Enstone-based outfit had less time than desired to further develop the passive system, which channels airflow at high speed in an attempt to reduce drag. And with the Friday evening cut-off point looming, Technical Director Nick Chester suggested that the device will not be granted its second race start of the season.
