Hamilton only made it as far as Turn 9 before an oil pressure alarm led to a precautionary engine shutdown and brought an end to his session. Normal service was resumed in the second session when the car got back on track and he set the quickest time of the day ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg. "I think it was a one-off [problem]," he said.
