Bottas first to land penalty points

Valtteri Bottas has become the first driver to be awarded penalty points on his F1 superlicense under the new system. It is one of several changes to the Sporting Regulations for this season and was confirmed last December. Points can be added to a driver's license by the stewards and will help to punish repeat offenders. If a driver accrues 12 points in the space of 12 months, he will be handed a one-race ban. They will remain on a driver's superlicense for one year before being removed, but they can be carried over across seasons.
