Nostalgia: Alonso and Renault outfox Schumacher as F1 enters new era in Bahrain

Sunday’s race in Bahrain marks the 10th anniversary of Formula One’s arrival in the gulf state, back in 2004. The winner of that first race was Michael Schumacher. In a year of utter domination from Ferrari the German was already well on his way to collecting his seventh and final drivers’ title. Two years later, and we had a new champion, Fernando Alonso. RichlandF1’s nostalgia buff Dan Paddock looks back to the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix, as Schumacher, and the newly crowned Alonso went head-to-head in a desert duel. 2006, much like 2014, was to be a year of change in Formula One.
