Mercedes set to focus on rivals

Toto Wolff says Mercedes needs to understand how the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull manage to close the performance gap in certain parts of races. While Lewis Hamilton won Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix comfortably, Nico Rosberg had to climb through the field after a poor start and pass Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso to finish second. While Rosberg did manage to do so, Wolff said it was interesting to note how Ricciardo especially was able to match pace at times but not at others. “It was not easy in the first stint,” Wolff said. “In terms of performance the cars were different; Nico lost telemetry before the formation lap, so you are basically blind in the car....
