Rosberg qualified on pole position in Monaco, but only after locking up and running wide at Mirabeau. Mercedes team-mate and rival for pole position, Lewis Hamilton, was behind Rosberg on track and had to slow for the yellows or face a penalty himself, meaning he had to back out of his final attempt.
