Rosberg tops first session in Britain

Mercedes AMG Petronas Nico Rosberg set the fastest time during the first practice session for the British Grand Prix as several drivers encountered problems at a sunny Silverstone. Rosberg set a time of 1:35.424 to eclipse Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.731s. It wasn't all plain sailing for Mercedes as Rosberg briefly suffered an ERS problem while Hamilton informed his team early on that his steering was not straight. Fernando Alonso was third for Ferrari, ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian sat out the final part of the session to save the gearbox after encountering a problem in his RB10.
