Fuel consumption error forces Maldonado out of qualifying

A lack of fuel was responsible for Pastor Maldonado’s early exit from qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Maldonado, third in the wet final practice session, had comfortably progressed into the second part of qualifying along with his Lotus team-mate Romain Grosjean, but was forced to stop his car out on track in the dying moments of Q2 after a fuel consumption miscalculation on the part of engine supplier Renault Sport. “We had a lack of fuel during the second qualifying session which meant I had to stop the car out on track,” explained the Venezulean. “The team are investigating to find out what happened as otherwise the car felt good and we had a strong opportunity to be in...
