Taking over from Jean-Eric Vergne, Kvyat completed 28 laps in the first four hours of the day and set a best time of 1:35.544 on the soft tyres, leaving him just over 0.3s off the fastest time set by Felipe Massa on the opening day. However, Kvyat did cause a red flag shorty after midday when he stopped in the final sector.
