Hamilton crashes out of Q1

Lewis Hamilton brought out the red flags during qualifying for the German Grand Prix after crashing in Q1 at Hockenheim. On a quick lap that was set to put him fastest in the session, Hamilton spun entering the Turn 13 hairpin due to what appeared to be a front-right brake issue. With little run-off on the ourside of the track, Hamilton hit the tyre barrier head-on after spinning, damaging the front end of the car and bringing out the red flag with over seven minutes remaining. Hamilton's radio message to the team suggested a brake issue, saying: "I put my foot on the pedal and something failed". Going in to the German GP weekend, Hamilton was just four points behind team-mate...
