Rosberg surprised by gap to Williams

Nico Rosberg admitted he was surprised to win the German Grand Prix so easily and not be challenged more closely by Williams. Although Rosberg started from pole position he had only been 0.2s clear of Valtteri Bottas in qualifying and saw Bottas retain his second place at the start of the race. However, from that point onwards Rosberg was able to ease away and win by over 20 seconds and he revealed after the race that he was expecting a tougher challenge, though was pleased his task wasn't made harder by a late safety car. “I was really surprised,” Rosberg said. “In qualifying we were quite close to Williams so I didn't expect to have such an advantage at the end of the race.
