Ecclestone trial comes to an end after $100m payment

Bernie Ecclestone's second bribery trial has come to an end today after the F1 supremo made a $100m payment, as allowed by the German legal system, to curtail proceedings. Ecclestone was accused of paying a $44m bribe to German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky to influence the sale of Formula 1 back in 2005. The prosecution claimed that this payment ensured that the sport went to a buyer of Ecclestone's liking, thus undervaluing the sport. However, this case was thrown out in the High Court back in February.
