Malaysian Grand Prix – Nico Rosberg drew first blood in the Mercedes duel by topping the first free practice session, which was shortened due to fire on Kevin Magnussen's car. The session effectively became shortened to one hour following a fire on the Renault of Kevin Magnussen in the first half-hour of the session. As the Dane returned to the pits after his installation lap, smoke was coming from the air box of the car. As he pulled up at the pit box, the smoke turned to fire as it was discovered that RS16 had an internal fuel leak.
