McLaren recover from poor qualifying to score double points

United States Grand Prix – McLaren were able to pick up the pieces from a poor qualifying to score their fourth double points finish this season. Fernando Alonso from twelfth on the grid worked his way into the points after a hectic start which saw Nico Hulkenberg retire and Valtteri Bottas dropped to the back of the field at Turn 1. The Spaniard took full advantage of the Virtual Safety Car and pitted for mediums to go to the finish, which saw him and countryman Carlos Sainz Jr. advance towards the top five, with Felipe Massa splitting them.
