Max Verstappen had his United States Grand Prix cut short after a gearbox failure led to his retirement. The Red Bull Racing driver had been running inside the top five all afternoon but problems surfaced for Verstappen after his second pit stop. Verstappen was forced to pull off the track to retire he was unable to make it back to the pits. As his RB12 was unable to be rolled back behind the barrier, a tractor was required to move the car, and for the safety of the other drivers the virtual safety car was deployed, which ultimately compromised team-mate Daniel Ricciardo‘s afternoon as well.
