Spygate scandal could cost Alonso Mercedes seat

Fernando Alonso's chances of claiming the second Mercedes seat along-side Lewis Hamilton in 2017 could be compromised by the Spanish drivers involvement in the Spygate back in 2007 when driving for McLaren-Mercedes.  Alonso and the Mercedes powered McLaren team endured a difficult 2007 season. Their car was up to the mark, and arguably, favorite to win both F1 titles that year, however a rocky relationship with Lewis Hamilton and the infamous Spygate scandal ruined any glory hopes for McLaren.
