Giovinazzi to replace Wehrlein last-minute ahead of season opener

Australian Grand Prix – Pascal Wehrlein has been pulled out last-minute of the opening round of the season to be replaced by Antonio Giovinazzi. The German felt he would not be able to perform sufficiently during a full Grand Prix distance as he is still recovering from his back injury sustained at his Race of Champions crash in January. “My fitness level is not as it should be for a full race distance because of my training deficit. I explained the situation to the team yesterday evening,' Wehrlein said. 'Therefore, the Sauber F1 Team has decided not to take any risks. It is a pity, but the best decision for the team.'
