Monaco: Why is there no F1 action on Friday?

– The Formula 1 fraternity heads into Friday at a Grand Prix weekend but in Monaco there is no track action from motorsport's top echelon.The reasoning behind the logic is fairly straightforward; the Thursday of the first Monaco weekend in 1929 was Ascension Day, the festival commemorating the belief of the bodily Ascension of Jesus into heaven. It was deemed that everyone should take a day off on the Friday after Ascension Day, before festivities resume on Saturday for the remainder of the weekend.Even though Ascension Day changes annually due to the fluctuating date of Easter – 2017 is the first time since 2010 that Monaco Thursday is actually Ascension Day – the tradition has...
